Debra’s Words of Wisdom

I love the work of habitat restoration, and making nature healthy in the midst of the great metropolis. My position affords me the chance to tell stories anywhere – and to anyone – about how restoring nature restores us, our bodies and our spirits. It’s a reciprocal act.

About the Author

First elected in 2006, Debra has served as a commissioner on the board of the MWRD of Chicago multiple terms. A volunteer and advocate throughout her life, Debra is dedicated to social and environmental justice. Devoted to the health of natural areas, she was founding editor of Chicago Wilderness magazine and a leader in the Chicago Wilderness consortium, engaging a diverse populace in regional habitat restoration work. Debra holds governance roles on numerous boards and is the recipient of many awards and honors for her achievements throughout her public service career.
